I've many, many reasons to include Abstract. In October, 2011, it was a start-up Saturday mornings school for 20 or so children with stars in their eyes. In July, 2013, around 150 pupils from the school performed in Abstract's second end-of-year show, before an audience of 500 in the prestigious Kings Theatre, Southsea.
It's a model of how one person (the principal, Amber-Leigh Mitchell) can turn a dream into a glorious reality, and perform a valuable service to her community at the same time. It's also a reminder that, behind every successful woman there's another woman. In this case, Dawn, Amber's mum. Two lovely people; proud to have them as friends.
I've been photographing Abstract's events and workshops from the beginning, and, every time I visit them, I come away feeling energised and inspired.
Whether or not you're looking for a performing arts school in the Portsmouth area, it's worth following them just to watch them grow and develop. To use their slogan, Abstract has Aspired, Achieved and will no doubt continue to Amaze! www.facebook.com/abstractdpapage
